Just the years of machinations and string pulling that GD Searle had to go through to keep this neurotoxin from being banned in 1979 is enough. Ronald Regan's FIRST act as US President was to insure the Aspartame ban would be impossible. His second was to do the Iran hostage deal, not only to throw the finger at Jimmy Carter, but also to quickly shove the Aspartame issue off the front pages. (Not so oddly reminiscent of the way Rumsfeld covered up the $2.1b that went "missing" from the Pentagon budget - a short-lived bit of public "wha????" that was announced on Sept. 10th, 2001.)
Add to that, the now suspected mis-diagnoses of everything from Lupus to MS possibly coming from Aspartame Poisoning (including, but not limited to, the cumulative ingestion of toxic Methanol, a substance the human body cannot ever remove, once metabolized.)
The woman serving 50 years in prison for the deliberate Methanol murder of her beloved husband, is particularly gut-wrenching.
