"This continued recession/depression/austerity at least will bring people back to basics" - sure, to their early grave. You know how many people died in Russia during the fucking "shock therapy" economy in the 90s?

We need to fight those austerity gools.Want austerity - fine, how about 1 per cent turnover tax on all Wall Street transactions - we are talking about 4,500 Trillion dollars a year turnover in derivatives, so we should collect 45 trillion a year in Wall Street sales tax.

After all, working families are paying 6 - 9% sales tax on their NECCESITIES.

I don't have a problem with that. Question is, who will make that happen?

And don't shoot me, I am only commenting just like everyone else on this forum. It ain't like Mr Morgan is leaving me an inheritance. I have all of $20 left in my checking account. But that doesn't mean I am anti-business or anti-workers.

What I'm saying is no banking cartel can get huge if people ain't playing along buying iphones and ipads and going to Walmart, getting over-priced housing, etc, etc. No one seems to ever see any of this coming... they prefer to believe the lie that what goes up, always keeps going up.

That's a game best not played by avg families. This is why the middleclass is pissed off, those who saved and didn't use credit. I don't blame them for getting pissed at the rest of us DUMMIES.

PS - Most people don't pay taxes on online purchases, tho they're supposed to. And some states do not have taxes on clothes and food. Some inner cities have 3% sales tax. Not every state charges personal property tax. Last I heard, we can move about the country.

You and me.
For starters, we need to educate ourselves and help educate others about the differences between British Monetary System and American Hamiltonian Credit System. Here is a good quote from Henry C. Carey, a leading American economist and adviser to Abraham Lincoln

“Two systems are before the world;... One looks to increasing the necessity of commerce; the other to increasing the power to maintain it. One looks to underworking the Hindoo, and sinking the rest of the world to his level; the other to raising the standard of man throughout the world to our level. One looks to pauperism, ignorance, depopulation, and barbarism; the other to increasing wealth, comfort, intelligence, combination of action, and civilization. One looks towards universal war; the other towards universal peace. One is the English system; the other we may be proud to call the American system, for it is the only one ever devised the tendency of which was that of elevating while equalizing the condition of man throughout the world

Just think about that: Fed issued about 13 trillion dollars in the last 3 years in zero-rate loans to international mega-banking cartels. What we have in exchange? High unemployment and rising prices, since that mothefuckers used the money to bid up the commodities prices.
If that information was in plain view in the minds of majority of the Americans, we WILL have new American revolution NOW.

Half of that money would be sufficient to eliminate the Depression.

I do think most of us agree more than we disagree. The thing is we all have different ways of expressing our dissatisfaction with how things happened and what course to take. Always the uncertainty is whether so-and-so will do what they say they'll do (person/govt/biz entity) and what they're true intentions are, which also is at risk of being hijacked.

Of course, we must still keep trying.

Hell if I like austerity, but its significance (as dreadful and deadly as it usually is to many) does inspire introspection and learning among those who do not react with violence. The fear, too, is whether people will have enough truth and educational resources (internet, libraries, elders) to get them through all this in a positive and meaningful way for the future of their young. No one likes the idea of going back to working for the future of their offspring when they were misled to believe that they're presently living this great future already.

To me it seems like we are "going back to the drawing board" for humanity once again. These are times when all sorts of other things will pop up, as they have been in various pockets of the world, ie: full-on civil wars, iconic leaders, masses of people blaming a scapegoat amongst their citizenry.

So much has been unfair, of course. Why on earth are 100's of thousands of people dying in the African drought? Can you imagine the starving there thinking, "Where are all these billionaires? And why can they not help us?"

They would give their left arm to have our problems... only, our problems have depressed the rest of the world. While we all demand equal and fair treatment, we are sucking down our daily latte and uploading our giggly faces to Facebook, hoping the PTB are being good shephards to the rest of the world with the money we throw at them for our comforts.

But we know that hasn't been true.

If taxing transactions on WS will do the trick, we ought do it. Something tells me those new revenues would become kickbacks for more global devastation... it's the nature of the beast.

Since the beginning of time, people have pursued trying to help/make human beings behave. Others pursued exploiting them. Then they found the magical combination of the two through propoganda of all sorts.

Sorry, Red, I have no use for soapy lengthy tirades like you just posted. Be specific, you are against taxing the megabanks and curbing the speculation because "new revenues would become kickbacks for more global devastation"
You moronic americans cause enough devastation already all over the world by exporting your inflation that hard-hits the poorer counties first.
All you are praying for is to extend the current unfair advantage of USD enough time to keep your fat and happy with McHamburgers while all you are capable of doing is posting moronic smiley faces and messages.

the prices of food just doubled in the last 6 months on my island, when current population spends 80 to 90 % of their miserable income for food.

I always have been amazed how mild the English language is in terms of swearing, specifically "unprinted swearing".
When i was younger and serving my draft term in the Soviet Army, we had a drill surgeant (starshina) hwo literally could "unprintedly" swear for 45 minutes without repeating himself.
