My client wants me to prepare her for an undergraduate interview (in English only) in Global Business. The future i.e. robotics will be the core of my coaching (h/t Fintan).
I've given her The Lights in The Tunnel. Poor chump; it's over her head. I warn her that she'd better 'man up' or be 'softwared'. I think she gets that bit.
Slow progress, but progress nonetheless. Look at this. Where is robotics mentioned? [Answer: nowhere!]:
Another thing. The late great philosopher Alan Watts gave a lecture to IBM executives in 1969 about Zen and hi-tech. Many surmise that the words 'bit' and 'byte' came from this:
Across the planet, new technologies and business models are decentralizing power and placing it in the hands of communities and individuals.
"We are seeing technology-driven networks replacing bureacratically-driven hierarchies," says VC and futurist Fred Wilson, speaking on what to expect in the next ten years. _________________ formerly known as duane in a previous registration
Fintan, thanks for the Traktor endorsement. Another cool DJ/music production platform is Ableton Live. I'm not Able (ton) to afford it right now but, I'm sure there's a cracked version out here in this cyber wilderness.
Google Chairman Eric Schmidt said his company is experimenting with automation in ways that will "replace a lot of the repetitive behaviour in our lives."
"We're experimenting with what automation will lead to," Schmidt said Thursday at a conference in Santa Monica, California. "Robots will become omnipresent in our lives in a good way."....
"Technology is evolving from asking a question to making a relevant
recommendation. It will figure out things you care about and
make recommendations. That's possible with today's technology."
Stephen Wolfram is structuring computers to translate your
regular human language into a special computer language
for extracting and displaying information.
It's neat. But the relevance to this thread is that structures like
Wolfram's are being built into knowledge engines of the future.
A future which arrives within five years from now.
Controversial mathematician Stephen Wolfram is about to release a
programming language with the goal of being able to quickly do just
about any calculation or visualization on just about any kind of data
a person could want.
Wolfram, creator of the widely used mathematical software Mathematica
and the "computational knowledge engine" Wolfram|Alpha, has announced
the forthcoming release of the Wolfram Language, the underlying
programming language powering those two pieces of software.

Despite their article above, it looks like
the Economist itself doesn't quite get it.
From the article:
Quote:
...The benefits of technological progress are unevenly distributed, especially in
the early stages of each new wave, and it is up to governments to spread them.
In the 19th century it took the threat of revolution to bring about progressive
reforms. Today’s governments would do well to start making the changes
needed before their people get angry.
Wasn't Occupy : "the threat of revolution" ?
The Economist's "changes" solution is laughable:
Quote:
The main way in which governments can help their people through this
dislocation is through education systems..... not, as many on the left
seem to think, to push up minimum wages..... Better to top up low wages
with public money so that anyone who works has a reasonable income....
The greatest dislocation in human history is oncoming.
The Economist decides to attack minimum wages. lol.
And offers "creative education" for non-existent jobs.
I wonder what the Economist considers a "reasonable income" for Bankers.
I wonder what the Economist considers a "reasonable income" for TechSerfs.
'Nuff said. _________________ Minds are like parachutes.
