| Any nicotine fiends here sucking vapor? I am seriously thinking about plunging in but I need to hear how my BFN friends may have gotten started. |

Guilty as charged.
I smoke.
There.
I said it.
I bought an electronic ciggie about a year ago.
For me it's merely a handy thing to have available for those situations where you can't smoke at all - flights, long journeys by public transport, hours and hours in some environment where you can't pop out for a smoke break. It is useful and reasonably effective as a stop-gap. It's more like actually smoking a cigarette than any other cigarette substitute and it's not entirely unsatisfying.
I don't especially want to stop smoking though. I've stopped a few times in the past for months at a time but I do enjoy a smoke, particularly when I'm reading.
I think if I was determined to quit again, the e-cig would be on standby but only for moments of desperation. I'd treat it as if it were a real cigarette and try not to use it - if I did give in to a weak moment, at least it would only be a "fake" defeat.
One thing that helped me enormously when I stopped smoking before was carrying a soft toothbrush at all time. An infant one is very soft. Every time I felt an urge to smoke, I'd scrub my gnashers. The business of giving my mouth some attention seemed to work well for me as a displacement activity.
I also kept a supply of mouth wash with me everywhere I went. (NOT a minty one though. That doesn't seem to be so effective.) The cleaner my mouth felt, the less inclined I was to stink it up with nasty smoke.
If I stop again - and the ridiculous price of a packet of ciggies now is making me think about it again - I'd certainly go down the toothbrush/mouthwash route with the e-cig as a safety net.
But the key thing is to want to be rid of cigarettes forever, not just substitute them with the next nearest thing.
Good luck, whatever way you decide. _________________ "Lucidity is what you know, reality is what you perceive and illusion is what you believe." - Peter, here on BFN |

I've couple of thoughts and questions
on this topic, figured I'd bump the thread.
Sorry for bumping this to the top of
general discussion, this topic should be
under Health.
I've actually been enjoying "vaping".
I'm a rather filthy smoker, even when
I cut back the ashes and smell just get
annoying to me sometimes, and the stigma
can be a pain in the ass. So the e-cig
thing seems to work well for me.
Though now and again I do enjoy the real thing,
it seems the most logical step on the way to quitting.
"Radioactive Tebackie" stories are scaring me off,
plus this shit's cheaper.
Is anyone aware of any major health risks
showing themselves in research? Seems to be
an awful lot of plastic involved in these things...what
exactly are we inhaling?
I bought this Cig2o thing which got me hooked on
vaping, but seems to be a generic rip off.
Each "cartridge" is supposed to be the same
as a pack/bundle of smokes. No way any of
that is going on. I am a light to medium smoker
depending on my mood , I go through
a real pack in between 1-3 days and these things
are running out damn well before their "18mg 100-200 puffs".
I'll give them maybe 10mg as an estimate.
This seems to be the general amount offered by
most companies, but it seems these Cig2o things
are some kind of scam.
Shopping around some of the more popular brands...
can anyone make a suggestion? |

Living on foreign shores I can't easily shop around so about a year ago when I first posted I looked online and ordered the most expensive and supposedly best system, Cirrus, and I like it. I have not had a real tobacco cigarette since. Nor do i really want one. Marlboro Menthol Lights were my brand and so I chose the "light menthol" cartridges to top the cigarette shaped battery. Yes, I am hooked again on nicotine and I do think it is affecting my well being in that I get twinges in my chest as i did with regular cigs but, as before, I ignore the signals and just suck at will and enjoy my new nicotine delivery device.

If someone sold an e-cig made of Pyrex or some other kind of tough glass/ceramic with which you could easily 'refill' the cartridges yourself, maybe with a dropper full of glycerine/nicotine mixture or similar, I think it would sell really well. _________________ The rule for today.

The industry seems to be headed in that direction.
The "juice" can be bought in bulk, and most cartridges,
even the cheap ones that I have, can be refilled a few times.
I'm going to be trying this in the near future.
For example, on the website for the brand I'm using
it says something along the lines of "we do not recommend
refilling your cartridges...but just in case here is a bunch of bulk
juice and and a link to step-by-step directions on refilling." |
