|

Well whou'da thunk it.
Sometimes you have to battle the
leeches on your own doorstep.
~No internet connection since Monday.
Did some digging and discovered it's all
because a local vulture capitalist cut the
net to the whole valley to gain leverage
in a dispute with his ISP buddies.
Most folks think the net around here is down
for some technical fault reason. Nope.
It's down because they are being made
pawns in someone's grab for the dollars.
Someone should tell these folks what's really going on.
I wonder if they'd be pissed off? Let's find out.
Time to kick butt.
This is a crummy dialup party line @ 32kbps,
I'll catchup reading in the forum when I get a
temporary dsl feed, hopefully tomorrow.
Rock on.

How about a mass mailing via an auto loader/program. MAYBE TAKE DOWN A SERVER OR TWO.

Can you tell us more about this - was it one of those shared wireless solutions that are used in some out-of-the-way locations?
Then again, presumably if you can get a DSL line to your place, you must be *reasonably* close to an adequately kitted-out digital phone exchange.

What's one of those, unless it's just an expression you're using.
Also, if it's 32Kbps because of the quality of the connection, that doesn't bode well for any DSL run over the same lines. _________________ The rule for today.

Old copper line is by far still the best, very east to maintain. I run DSL over mine with ZERO ISSUES--None --ever.
The old glass vs copper argument = pennies vs dollars. Just keeping up with the Jones'.
He's got some JACK- ass sitting on a switching station with a few servers who IS PIGGY BACKING on Vodaphone or some other mega carrier, He's just flexing his mini muscles. Now that's one thing I can say for the states, that shit don't fly over here. The bigs would cut him/her off at the knees and run pipe straight from their backbone to the user, even if it cost them to do so.
It's a matter of principle. Besides those type asshole's were the ones who BK'ed many a good person by leeching off of the majors with ZERO backup when things went wrong. In the day I could name a couple dozen off them right off of the top of my head. Good riddance, leeches is all they were.
I'm damn surprised that Colin Powell's son lived through all the stupid shit he did >> what a fool believes. JMHO. But hey my family were some of the very first to own ma bell stock, maybe, just maybe, I've a clue about this shit.
Fuck fiber, run some 12 gauge copper out to the pole and let her rip! And by all means pitch that pocket protector in the nearest trash bin.

I'm not quite sure that I understand what you're saying, although it sounds most interesting.
Mentioning Vodafone, are you implying that it's a 3G system? _________________ The rule for today.

Fintan and Kathy are working with a temporary 3G solution ... they will get this sorted out as soon as possible and will be back on broadband or in a FEMA camp. Hang in there folks ... they have underestimated what it takes to stay on the inter-webs while tunneling through a mile of bedrock ... 2012 bunker ya know... maybe dark fiber next time! And yes ... the helicopters were dark gray or maybe black ... they're gone now ... can still hear Kathy singing hallelujah ... haunting ...

FEMA CAMP- holy hell. I'd be interested in some inside pics of the joint, mainly the cafeteria area and it's overall cleanliness.
Somehow I don't think we could call that the Next Level. Reporting from FEMA Camp # 2012 doesn't even have a good ring to it. What kind of music as a backdrop? Anything but Organ stuff!

Ok! Back in action.
First on a slow cell net 384k 'edge' system and then
found a sweet spot for a laptop where it can see a cell
tower, so now have a full WCDMA/HSDPA connection
acting as a local network gateway.
Most of the copper around these here rural parts
is party line and thus unsuitable for DSL. I got a usb
hsdpsa on 7 day approval to get that temporary
solution in place.
Been out and about passing the word around about
the fact that the local capitalist has simply turned off
the power to the area wireless broadcast tower. So he'll
be getting some well-deserved 'customer feedback'
over the next few days. We'll see how that develops.
Now, where the &$% was I..... _________________ Minds are like parachutes.

I've ended up with a unique kind of mobile DSL.
To get a decent signal I parked the car at the
highest possible point; ran an electrical extension
to it; popped the laptop on the seat; and hung
the USB dongle from the rear view mirror.
Just gotta remember to disconnect B4 driving off....
It's auto-mobile DSL, but not THAT mobile.
Was out canvassing today and got a bunch more
peasants polishing their pitchforks for bloodletting.... _________________ Minds are like parachutes.

The net is still down, and I won't go into detail in public, but
there's just been a lot of progress in resolving the problem.
The connection has in the past been excellent, and uncapped
so it's been worth fighting for. Finished the battle now, and
another week will determine if it's worked out right.
This has sucked so much free time
that it's delayed plans here on BFN.
Be great to get it done and dusted.
Now, back to business. _________________ Minds are like parachutes.
