Being a "raver" on the east coast united states in the late 90's/early 00's i noticed a strange progression that i've only recently begun to try & make sense of.

Anyone remember all those news stories that popped up about crazy drug raves and the anti-christian behavior that ensued? How enticing it made it all seem for us seemingly "counter-culture" types. I think MTV also had a big role in the shaping and marketing of this subculture.

Present images of kids blissed out on E listening to the boom boom boom having the time of their lives. PLUR! Suck them in. get them involved in idol worship as the media brings up disk jockeys like fucking Gods! Oakenfold, Richie Hawtin, Moby, all those pricks. Set up bullshit organizations that distribute drug, safe sex & hiv/aids propaganda at said parties.

So you've got these kids sucked into this scene. Zonked out on E. worshipping overrated prick dj's. At first they're a bit lax. Kids are throwing outlaws, breaking in to airfields and throwing huge outdoor parties. Time goes by... awareness of the "scene" increased. Controversy is created. A bunch of laws are passed and parties are now moving into clubs. And as time goes by, smaller & smaller clubs. The scene becomes gradually more marginalized and corporate. Was it a corporate creation from the beginning? A means to distribute ecstasy & other drugs in mediated environments? I feel it might, based on all the propaganda I was exposed to about E from a fairly young age. Remember how the pills were sometimes branded?

notice the corporate logos. maybe the sponsors weren't ashamed to reveal themselves :rockin

In the few years I was really into the "scene" I noticed the drugs would switch up quite dramatically. At first taking E's were in. Then LSD was suddenly hot shit. Then one day all the cid disappears and all my friends are suddenly addicted to coke! weird! SO they push all these poor suckers into the clubs and they pick & choose what substances they'll be into that certain period of time. ANd of course alcohol is always involved. so after burning these poor little shits out on hard drugs, alcohol, over-excitement for so many years, many just seem to fade back into the practical suburban bullshit life from which they came. or they're addicted to meth and partying just as hard as they were 10 years ago lol.

also, thanks to assholes like Moby who went from making dance music to bullshit (yes, some of it is nice, but seriously, fuck that guy) he along with many other MTV promoted electronic music artists, the transition was made possible for hardcore ravin E lovin, rainbow brite motherfuckers to the swanky world of cool dude coke sniffin club kids. or obedient idiots.

I am just throwing a bunch of shit out there. Maybe some of you can build on it, or not. either way, rave on motherfucker! :cool

Any youth culture or counter culture
that is genuine to begin with no matter
how anarchic, revolutionary it may appear
once it becomes popular it gets SOAKED UP
BY THE SYSTEM
, profit becomes the only truth.

the system always compromises the artist
the system modifies the group emotions

it doesnt have to be an aCtive conspiracy
everything is designed to destroy what is good
and true once CORPO MONEY IS INVOLVED!!

SICKENING BUT TRUE,
BUT HEY Very Happy ONCE THESE FUCKERS FALL ALONG WITH THEIR
SICK CONTROLS, PAST CREATIVE CULTURE MOVEMENTS
WILL PALE INTO INSIGNIFICANCE IN COMPARISON
TO WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE.

LOL Laughing It doesnt feel like that right now, does it?
but it's not suppose to, is it? Wink

Meh.

Clubs are like prisons now.

They just installed machines that copy your license and scan your thumb at the door of at my local drinking hole. Overkill? I've seen undercover cops there plenty of times also.

What about kids overdosing at festivals because they popped their whole stash once the sniffer dogs arrived?

I have to agree that someone's pulling the strings on what's hot and when-- Why is it that new episodes of the simpsons are always talking about heroin? Of course MTV is the more obvious ting

Yeah, i've notices their's a lot of news in the UK about downgrading ecstasy
at the moment.

Trying to get the new generation of kids interested no doubt.
