FRONTLINE: The Dark Side

Amid revelations about faulty prewar intelligence and a scandal surrounding the indictment of the vice president's chief of staff and presidential adviser, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, FRONTLINE goes behind the headlines to investigate the internal war that was waged between the intelligence community and Richard Bruce Cheney, the most powerful vice president in the nation's history.

"A lot of what needs to be done here will have to be done quietly, without any discussion, using sources and methods that are available to our intelligence agencies," Cheney told Americans just after 9/11. He warned the public that the government would have to operate on the "dark side."

In "The Dark Side," FRONTLINE tells the story of the vice president's role as the chief architect of the war on terror, and his battle with Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet for control of the "dark side." Drawing on more than 40 interviews and thousands of documents, the film provides a step-by-step examination of what happened inside the councils of war.

Oh yeah. I saw that too tonight. Reminded me of the old Dirty Harry films with Clint Eastwood playing the honest but tough and over zealous cop who has to break a few regulations and plant some evidence to 'get the bad guys', because that damned old Constitution lets terrorists run amok in San Francisco. Cheny would be Eastwood in this Frontline Piece, I gathered.

Reinforces the official version that will go down in the history books. Utter bullshit, of course. Reinforces the validity of the official story of 911. Casts Cheney and Tenant as the over zealous patriots who made some mistakes in their zeal for saving America, and 'restoring' the power fo the Presidency.

Frontline is moving backwards from where they were even a couple of years ago. I think that's their purpose on PBS. The diffuse questions and gradually gear the stories into line with the official historical version.

They're wrapping up the Bush/Neocon show, 911 is 'solved' (Bin Laudin did it), Cheney and Rumsfeld's patriotism got over zealous, Tenant crossed the line in deceptive advertizing of the WMD threat, and Bush comes off smelling like a rose who was a victim of skewed intelligence from Tenant, who just wanted to help out.

Yes, and they do it because it works. The Liberal MB's ands blogs' hearts are all a-flutter with this program. "The revolution has begun!" was my favorite post. Laughing

Spew the same propaganda, wrap it in what looks like a vicious ideological attack, and you have a winning package.

And the longer you deprive them of any momentum, the better a tiny little bit of it looks. It's working well with the 9/11 Truth Movement as well. As time drags on towards closing time at the 9/11 Truth Lounge, you start to realize the beautiful MIHOP chick you were talking to all night didn't go to the bathroom, she went home to the boyfriend she complained about all night who beats her. And now that ugly LIHOP chick at the end of the bar is starting to look a hell of a lot more attractive. Shocked

I dig that analogy! It's funny 'cause it's true......

If I'd seen this Frontline piece a year ago, I would have believed it, sortof. My problem with it always was that as scary as Cheney is, and as tempting as the intrique is, this version's premise is that Osama and Al Queda pulled off 911. The version rides on that.

I find that the majorty of Americans are having to work long hours, and there's only enough head room left at the end of the day to catch a glimpse of the world through television presentations of reality.

Dark side to Dick? I didn't know there was a bright side. I remember seeing a group of spooky people in Brisbane's Queen St. mall last year evangelising and selling some crappy book/magazine about how Dick is the Mr. Big behind everything. Of course people in the mall were just walking by and ingnoring them, 'cause they were so spooky. I tried confronting the spookiest looking guy there, who just tried to ignore me. They were obviously actors promoting government propaganda, just like many of the Bush bashers.

Seriously, what brains do these people have to be able to put down Bush or Cheney.
