A long list would be telling. I believe that favorite music is better dropped in other contexts over time, or disclosed when one special to you is snooping when they think you're in another room and not aware, in a subtle way when you see a smile on that person's face when spotting a particular thing and you say to yourself silently, Yes!. To keep hold of one's deep secrets... those that are a joy to reveal over the course of the lifetime.

At this moment, fore and firstmost is

MYMIX: Eclipse Sides Purple Rock
Put this compilation together to crystalize a certain precious voice recording, and a progressive musical feeling from the disc-jockey phase of my youth. I make mixes that are meant to be listened-to even when people are not dancing. This one is quite a ride.

Free Design: Memories [1969]
This I encountered one day when I was 12 years old, a wholly amazing arrangement not just because there are tubas in it... swept up in sweet melancholia without any life context... I decided then that having poignant memories worth recalling vividly later on in life should be a part of life's planning from the get-go. And so I resolved to make such moments, and upon listening again (and again), actually went to tears for what I imagined would later be -- and still later -- what would be long past, forever. And it 'worked': I vividly remember that moment, and so many since... and listening now there is a tear also, but this time it is because I consciously resolved to gather such moments, a direct connection to that moment, and a busy but lonely 12 year old boy who thank a lot.

The Orb: Slug Dub
No explanation necessary, possible, or ever likely.

Tangerine Dream: Thru Metamorphic Rocks
Coda to this quartet

When a taste of music is fine, seek ever The Source, of course.
___
Thomas: Ahh... the slugs to look at.
Voice-over Storyteller: Yes, there were the slugs... babies, mothers, and grandmothers...
besides enormous great fat slugs... all eating the little juicy leaves.
Mother: Oh Thomas, let's set some traps... some slug traps and catch them all.
V.O. Storyteller: Did those slugs walk into the traps? Nooo, not one. They just loved the lettuce and went on...
**Huh-huh-huh-huh** and went on eating the juicy lettuces.
Mother: Oh dear me, what shall we do? There be no lettuce left for little Tim comes home.
Thomas: I know! I've got a good idea! I'll shoot those varmints! ...
Mother: Thomas!
Thomas: ... I will! I'll shoot them!
V.O. Storyteller: Thomas crept very carefully up the lettuce patch and fired his little gun.
** POP-POP ** But did the slugs mind? **Huh** No, not they... not more than ever... their slimy way.
**Huh-huh-huh-huh** And they ate up all the peas, and then they turned about and went on eating the lettuces.
Mother: Thomas, are you getting up? We shall have any lettuce for little Tim comes home.
V.O. Storyteller: They hopped sadly along the passage into the kitchen in their house, and then Mariah had arrived...

[Mariah has her own cool arrival-sound which is heard at this point]

V.O. Storyteller: The greedy slugs raised their heads to listen. They wait there happily... ghastly... joyishly and laughed slightly.
Slug: Huh-huh... yes, hear sweet music at my feast. Hear the sweet music while we eat.
V.O. Storyteller: And then they laughed again happily in their slimy way.
Slug: Huh-huh-huh! Huh-huh-huh!
V.O. Storyteller: And went on eating the lettuces.

Slug: Huh-huh!
Mother: (crying) There won't be even no nibbles when our little Tim comes home. **Sniff-sniff**
V.O. Storyteller: Suddenly a voice called out and out rushed Tim hopping and skipping and turning sommer-saults...
as he came towards his father and mother.
Timmy: Hello, hello! I brought a friend. Oh, what's the matter?
V.O. Storyteller: The slugs are eating all the lettuce, Tim.
Tim: Well then, my friend Brush was but just wondering if you'd have me for supper... why's we only had visitors? Didn't I Brush?
Brush: Pass it to me. Uh-ah, I think I can help you if you'd allow me so. Just watch me (whistling)
V.O. Storyteller: He gobbled up the slugs faster than you can count...
baby slugs, mama slugs, grandmother and great-grandmother slugs before they had time to take their slimy heals...
awhile Thomas stood and watched in wonder at the huge appetite.
Thomas: Ha-ho-ho-ho-hooo! Come and have supper with us whenever you like, Mister Brush.
Tim: Oh, he will... Mister Brush.
Thomas: Yes! Get in.
Brush: (whistling)

I quite like that opening BFN tune which begins:

"Welcome..."

Anyone got an mp3 of it?

this is in response to that other thread 'we want your soul' ...it just didn't seem right to post it over there and mess up his thread...but...

omg...i have been a Marvin Gaye lover forever...thanks for the turn on atm!

'Distant Lover' is in my all time top 3 M.G. ... Every red blooded woman in the world was laid to waste by this man's soul and voice..he was THE sexiest man on the planet in every way...he had the most natural and beautiful falsetto but with sooo much texture and depth...then he could just rip into it so effortlessly. I had the album this song was on and actually wore it out. The fantasies i used to have...omg..

Here he is again on that same Soul Train show..

Just him and a piano...beautiful>

Fintan

how about you move all my mis-placed music video threads (and others, from others chumps) to this thread, like we were all meant to in the first place?

Cheque not in the post 'cos my bank dislikes dealing with juntas. Now there's an oxymoron.
