"The strategy is not going to change, although they are clearly looking for ways in which their tactics may change ... they are not going to suddenly pull out of Iraq."

In other words, we'll pull out when you pull out. A policy based on coitus interruptus.

He knows what he's talking about, and that's right.
State Department goals and policies never change. The US 'pulled out' of Viet Nam because their long term objectives had been achieved. The goal never was for a US 'win' in the sense it was presented publicly.
Neither was the fairy tale goal of a "free, democratic" Iraq purring under the loving mechanical hand of the US the goal either.
The real goals for Iraq are going exactly as planned. The real plan is essentially the same as in any city, when they want to build corporate skyscraper on a block where an historic landmark is in the way. First they scrap with the local city council and preservation society to justify tearing down the landmarks and evicting the tenants. Perhaps fabricate inspectins claiming 'dangerous gas leaks' or such.

The US Military's role is that of the demolition contractor that wrecks and clears the property.

Oh! During the last years of the Viet Nam war the comedians had a field day with that rhetoric!

George Carlin, 1971

"General, the people are protesting, they think you should pull out..."

"Pull out?!! Doesn't sound very 'manly' to me, Bill"

I didn't mean it to sound that funny. I had more of a multi-mutual, parasitic relationship in mind.

I smell a new Beck song, "Everybody's Gotta Bathe Sometime...."

Okay, get ready for it, a sneak peek at Act Two:

Lieberman: "I'm not ruling out becoming a Republican."

http://www.courant.com/news/politics/hc-lieberman1113.artnov13,0,6768878.story?coll=hc-headlines-politics-state

This is the clown the Liberal blogs were arguing would "always vote with the Dems."

Quote:
WASHINGTON -- Four days after calling his party affiliation a "closed issue," U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman said Sunday he was "not ruling it out" that he could turn Republican.

He told NBC's "Meet the Press" he will return to Washington as an "Independent Democrat" - "capital I, capital D."

But the R is lurking.

And an R in the middle of an I and a D is an IRD, or InfraRed Device, used in controlling things from a distance.

Quote:
"I'm not ruling it out," he said, "but I hope I don't get to that point. And, I must say, and with all respect to the Republicans who supported me in Connecticut, nobody ever said, `We're doing this because we want you to switch over.'"

Well, not within earshot, anyway.

Quote:
Lieberman also left open another controversial door - supporting more U.S. troops in Iraq.

"I think we have to be open to that as a way to succeed to achieve a free and independent Iraq, which would be an extraordinary accomplishment, but it's got to be tied to a new strategy," he said.

=========================
Yes. As long as we stay the course with a new strategy. Laughing
