Hackergate: Letter reveals major cover-up at ‘News of the World’
http://www.dangerousminds.net/comments/hackergate_letter_reveals_cover_up_news_of_the_world/

It looks like the Murdochs and their former News of the World editor Andy Coulson are finally fucked over the ‘phone hacking scandal today, after the publication of a letter by former employee.

Clive Goodman is the former News of the World Royal Correspondent, who was arrested in August 2006, and jailed in January 2007 for illegally intercepting mobile phone messages involving members of the Royal Household. In March 2007, Goodman wrote a letter, published Tuesday, which claimed that ‘phone hacking was widely discussed by editorial staff at the tabloid, until, then editor, Andy Coulson banned any reference to it.

Rebekah Brooks to be charged with
perverting the course of justice

Former News International chief executive, her husband
and four others to be charged in phone-hacking inquiry

Sandra Laville, crime correspondent - guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 15 May 2012 11.48 BST

Rebekah Brooks, the former chief executive of News International, is to be charged over allegations that she tried to conceal evidence from detectives investigating phone hacking and alleged bribes to public officials.

Brooks, one of the most high-profile figures in the newspaper industry, will be charged later on Tuesday with three counts of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in July last year at the height of the police investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced.

She is accused of conspiring with others, including her husband, Charlie Brooks, the racehorse trainer and friend of the prime minister, and her personal assistant, to conceal material from detectives.

Brooks and her husband were informed of the charging decision the first since the start of the Operation Weeting phone-hacking investigation last January when they answered their bail at a police station in London on Tuesday morning.

They are among six individuals from News International, along with the company's head of security, Mark Hanna, to be charged over allegations that they removed material, documents and computers to hide them from officers investigating phone hacking. The charge carries a maximum penalty of life, although the average term served in prison is 10 months.....

The charges now facing Rebekah Brooks are very serious.

Essentially, she faces a sentence commensurate with being found guilty
of the crime which the concealment of evidence was designed to thwart.
That's why the maximum sentence for perverting the course of justice is
life imprisonment.

Police have been investigating allegations of phone hacking, and alleged
bribery of public officials.

Last year, a computer, paperwork and a mobile phone were found in a
bin near the Brooks London home the day after Rebekah Brooks had
been arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications
and of corrupting police officers.

Ms. Brooks is not the only one in trouble. Prime minister David Cameron
and Brooks sent text messages to each other agreeing they should not be
seen together.

But they have been way too close for Cameron's political comfort -
especially in light of these serious charges. More on that below:

Quote:

PM sent message of support to Brooks

Tuesday, May 15, 2012 | 02:07 p.m.

LONDON: Prime Minister David Cameron privately sent Rebekah Brooks
a message of support as his government was publicly condemning her
newspaper group for hacking Milly Dowlers phone, it emerged on
Tuesday night.

In the week before she resigned as chief executive of News International
over the targeting of the missing schoolgirl, the prime minister texted
Brooks last July to tell her to keep her head up and that she would
get through her difficulties, according to a new biography of the
Conservative leader.

Days later the prime minister sent an emissary to explain to Brooks that
he could not back her publicly because of the political pressure caused by
the scandal, according to authors Francis Elliot of The Times and James
Hanning, deputy editor of The Independent on Sunday.

Meanwhile, police said journalists on the News of the World (NotW) tabloid
did hack the phone of Dowler but there is no conclusive evidence they
deleted messages which gave her parents false hope she was still alive.

In the updated biography, Cameron: Practically a Conservative, they lay
bare the closeness of the relationship between Cameron and Brooks,
confirming that despite the misgivings of some senior Tories, they would
regularly pop round to one anothers houses in south Oxfordshire.

The relationship bore fruit politically, with all of News Internationals
newspapers, The Sun, Times, Sunday Times and News of the World
endorsing the Conservatives
at the 2010 general election.

Referring to the regular visits between the two, the authors write in the
book, serialised in The Times today: The wider public might have liked to
know too of the text message that [Mrs Brookss husband] Charlie Brooks
told friends Cameron sent to Brooks at the beginning of the week in which
she resigned, telling her to keep her head up and shed get through her
difficulties.

Such contact came to an abrupt halt soon afterwards, with Brooks not
wanting to embarrass Cameron and he wanting to be able to say, hand
on heart, that they had not been in touch.

But it was claimed that Cameron did send an emissary to Brooks to
mitigate his sudden coldness towards her. The gist of the message was,
Sorry I couldnt have been as loyal to you as you have been to me, but
Ed Miliband had me on the run.

Well, you know what they say:
"Hair, today, gone tomorrow."

But today they say:
"The stone-cold bitch is BACK!"

Let's remind ourselves of the
kind of person Rebecca Brook is:

the wake of the phone hacking scandal.

I'm really glad this old story about Murdoch's slimy
henchwoman Rebekah Brooks is going viral on the net.

It's a notoriety on a global scale which she
truly deserves. Now the whole world will get
to see that she is a total f**king c**t:

CB: Well, to be frank, Greg, as far as my future at News International
is concerned, I haven't toed the line for the editor's pet project. I didn't
prance around while the World Trade Centre was being bombed, for her
personal amusement.
I can't just stroll in.

Here's another good reason this return
of Rebecca Brooks is truly sickening:

News of the World Phone Hacking
Whistleblower Found Dead

Death of Sean Hoare who was first named journalist to allege
Andy Coulson knew of hacking not being treated as suspicious

Amelia Hill, James Robinson, Caroline Davies
guardian.co.uk, Monday 18 July 2011 18.04 BST

Sean Hoare, the former News of the World showbiz reporter who was the first named journalist to allege Andy Coulson was aware of phone hacking by his staff, has been found dead, the Guardian has learned.

Hoare, who worked on the Sun and the News of the World with Coulson before being dismissed for drink and drugs problems, is said to have been found dead at his Watford home.

Hertfordshire police would not confirm his identity, but the force said in a statement: "At 10.40am today [Monday 18 July] police were called to Langley Road, Watford, following the concerns for welfare of a man who lives at an address on the street. Upon police and ambulance arrival at a property, the body of a man was found. The man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained, but not thought to be suspicious. Police investigations into this incident are ongoing."

sometime between the 17th and 18th....

By the way, the clincher in the Kelly case
came in mid-2013. Case closed:

Clearly we are not the only ones
sickened by the return of the vile
Rebekah Brooks to head up an
arm of the Murdoch empire:

Her own former security chief is also outraged and
is now ready to blow the whistle. His video on the
"most hated company in the world":

Rebekah Brooks' ex-security boss vows to 'blow whistle'

Mark Hanna says he is disgusted Brooks has been
re-employed and will reveal details of time at Murdoch papers

Friday 4 September 2015 09.39 BST

The former head of security for Rebekah Brooks has said he will blow
the whistle on Rupert Murdochs UK newspapers, the day after it was
confirmed she had been re-hired as chief executive of News UK.

In a video uploaded to YouTube, Mark Hanna, who was acquitted last year along with Brooks and her husband, Charlie, of plotting to pervert the course of justice, claims he was extremely close and trusted by executives at News International and he now wanted to show how underhanded they had been.

Hanna was the director of security at the company, now known as News UK. Unlike Brooks, who received a payout of more than 16m after resigning from News Corp in 2011 and has been reinstated, Hanna was made redundant after the trial and received 30,000 from the company.

I am now standing up against those that sit back and treat us all with contempt the Murdochs and Brooks of the world, Hanna said in a two-minute video released on Friday.

Hanna, who is unemployed and living on benefits, said the decision by Murdoch to reinstate Brooks four years after the phone-hacking allegations and the closure of News of the World had infuriated him and many others.

To me, her previous director of group security, this is Murdochs middle finger being shoved right in my face after standing trial with her, and others, in what was classed as the trial of the century during which it was widely accepted that I should never have been involved.

In June, Hanna said he fully expected to get his job back after the trial but was made redundant. Because of the stigma of being involved in the phone-hacking trial he found he could not get work.

Even though I did nothing wrong, Ive paid an enormous price. Ive been told by leading industry figures that the risk to reputational damage is too great, that my standing in the security business is irreparable.

He claims that during the trial at the Old Bailey he sat with Brooks, Andy Coulson, Ian Edmondson, Clive Goodman, Charlie Brooks, Cheryl Carter and Stuart Kuttner and witnessed what went on behind the scenes.

I intend to tell you everything that I know which I am sure will shock everybody as well as revealing what it was like working in what was, or is certainly becoming, one of the most hated organisations in the UK, if not the world, Hanna said in the video.

Hanna challenged his redundancy settlement at an employment tribunal in Croydon in June. I feel betrayed, he said in remarks after the tribunal hearing, adding that what has happened was wrong, immoral and unjust.

During the Old Bailey trial, his barrister described Hanna, a former soldier who had been employed at News International since 2009, as a hired hand who had become entangled in a huge sensational case, which in truth has nothing to do with him.....
