The net is still down, and I won't go into detail in public, but
there's just been a lot of progress in resolving the problem.

The connection has in the past been excellent, and uncapped
so it's been worth fighting for. Finished the battle now, and
another week will determine if it's worked out right.

This has sucked so much free time
that it's delayed plans here on BFN.
Be great to get it done and dusted.

Now, back to business.

Fintan and Kathy are working with a temporary 3G solution ... they will get this sorted out as soon as possible and will be back on broadband or in a FEMA camp. Shocked Hang in there folks ... they have underestimated what it takes to stay on the inter-webs while tunneling through a mile of bedrock ... 2012 bunker ya know... maybe dark fiber next time! And yes ... the helicopters were dark gray or maybe black ... they're gone now ... can still hear Kathy singing hallelujah ... haunting ...

Never a better time to hit up some audiobooks, just finished reading Confessions of an E.H.M by Perkins. Great read but I get the feeling he is not too up to snuff on a few major points. Glad you and Kathy are making a net recovery, hand it to the assholes who are bogarding the ISP's.

Well, getting there, but arranging point to point wireless
internet systems in a rural area is a logistical bummer.

Hopefully a week or so will see it sorted. Wink

Meanwhile, sorry for delays on the audios, but having to
constantly move between different 3G isp's because we
don't want to sign up on contract with any of them --as it's
likely our previous system will be back soon....

Been some outages too with these providers --was off for
36hrs just now and only back on since lunchtime.

Persistence. Sigh.

Er... um... it builds character Laughing Or sumptn'

Well whou'da thunk it.

Sometimes you have to battle the
leeches on your own doorstep.

~No internet connection since Monday.
Did some digging and discovered it's all
because a local vulture capitalist cut the
net to the whole valley to gain leverage
in a dispute with his ISP buddies.

End of January eh?

My how time flies where your internet connection is in the can.

And so, after 4 months of shitty replacement 3G connections,
and 4 months of relentless grafting through the commerce and
social politics of deploying good quality, wireless-antenna broadband
in a rural area....

..Today we dotted 'i's and crossed 't's on a deal whereby a new ISP
is coming into the valley --with service starting in about a week.

The internet drought is OVER!

The droplets of data sprinkling the evening fields are the first
signs of an oncoming rainy-season-downpour of bits 'n bytes.

As the parched information gullies now swell with rushing torrents;
a downloadable digital cacophony splashing it's way.....etc...etc....

Oooops, getting carried away......... Confused

So would you after 4 months of net hell. Wink

Online journalism is easier if you are online, I've found.

Since January, it's been: battling winter, data drought,
financial tightropery and a whole heap more.....

Be nice to do journalism full on again for a change.

Idea

So Finally..............

This is the first post on a new Internet connection.

It's a decent 3 down, 1 up --with good latency. Wink

This is a Short post for such a Long battle.

Boy has this cost a lot of time
more usefully spent on BFN....

but....

Back in Business!! Very Happy Laughing
