| Quote: | The Big Fluoride Debate
Dentists are backing Health Secretary Alan Johnson as he launches a campaign to add fluoride to our water supplies. But critics say the move can actually damage teeth and even cause cancer. Do you think fluoride should be added to our water?
The Health Secretary Alan Johnson has reopened the debate on whether fluoride should be added to Britain's water supplies.
Health authorities across the UK are now being encouraged to add fluoride to water if local people are in favour of the move.
Mr Johnson appeared on the BBC this morning, citing major differences between the quality of children’s teeth in Manchester (where fluoride isn’t added to the water) and Birmingham (where it has been added for more than 40 years). He argued that children in Manchester were twice as likely to suffer tooth decay as their Birmingham counterparts.
At the moment only one tenth of Britain’s population, mainly in the north-east and West Midlands, use water containing fluoride. But Mr Johnson argues that fluoridation is an "effective and relatively easy way" to help poorer children by preventing dental problems in later life.
Back in 2000, a study by York University revealed water fluoridation increased the number of children without tooth decay by 15%. But critics say adding fluoride can cause fluorosis, where teeth become stained and pitted, and has even been linked to bone cancer.
Mr Johnson told the Press Association: "I want the NHS to do much more to prevent, rather than just treat, disease. Fluoridation is an effective and relatively easy way to help address health inequalities, giving children from poorer backgrounds a dental health boost that can last a lifetime. We have a duty to help the areas with the worst record on tooth decay to discuss this issue and take the necessary steps to improve their dental health."
Do you think fluoride should be added to our water supplies? Talk about it here. |

I remember back in the 60's (I was only a toddler then, of course <ahem>) when concern over public water flouridation was equated with thinking you had "Commies under your bed." It was a staple sideline joke of any comedian who wanted to portray delusional political paranoia.
It's not so funny anymore. _________________ "No matter what happens, ever... there's ALWAYS at least one reason. And the top reason is ALWAYS money." |

My dentist recently scolded me for not using toothpaste with Fluoride in it, she said it helps strengthen the bone and reduces the incidence of gum disease _________________ IMAGINE

I believe the greatest danger from the toxins is to children. Studies have shown - according to The Flouride Deception - that it can lower IQ's, cause ADD, etc. There may even be links to autism.

I try to teach a form of English to a prostodontist (false teeth maker).
I nearly gave him a copy of the latter polemical DVD but, he laughed at the zero flouride organic toothpaste I gave him for Christmas.
[Insert expletive. atm]
The medical profession are the most ignorant....choose your adjective.
Perhaps one day I'll slip it into his Acer's DVD drive and wait for his answer (question?) but, I'm not holding my breath, Listerine or no Listerine.
It is sad and rarely said; dentists still do not realise that flouride was once the key ingredient of rat poison.
And most arthritis is actually skeletal flourousis, caused and undiagnosed by flouridated water tables.
As an athiest once said to me:
"...never trust doctrines, doctors theologians or therapists."

I didn't drink fluoridated water when I was a kid.
Maybe that's why I'm on this forum... _________________

I dilute my vodka with Listerine. Is that a good idea? I forget. [These crushing headaches are killing me but, me breffs so fresh now!]

From the American Academy of Pediatrics website:
"A tartar-control toothpaste can help keep plaque from adhering to your child's teeth. Also, fluoride in the toothpaste can strengthen the exposed outer enamel of the youngster's teeth and help prevent cavities. Fluoride also has been added to the water supply in many cities. If your own tap water has less than the recommended levels of this nutrient, your pediatrician may suggest that you add fluoride to your child's diet beginning at age 6 months, often as part of a vitamin supplement. Fluoride treatment should continue until age 16. Ask your doctor or dentist for guidance. "

Industrial waste products are nutrients now. That's just wrong.

| most of the major tranquillizers are flouride based, and it was for this purpose that ig farben developed it for use in water supplies, backed by standard oil and the usual culprits in the usa. |

The clip in that Christopher Bryson video with the poster proclaiming how many dentists "recommend smoking Viceroys" speaks volumes.
